This article introduces an immersive communication framework called IC-HDT-ECoTI, designed to enable Human Digital Twin (HDT) through edge computing-powered tactile internet. HDT is expected to revolutionize human lifestyles and foster human-centric applications (e.g., the Metaverse) by bridging physical and virtual spaces. However, HDT imposes strict demands on pervasive connectivity, real-time feedback, multi-modal data transmission, and ultra-high reliability, making immersive communications essential. The article outlines the system architecture of IC-HDT-ECoTI, analyzing its design requirements and challenges, and presents core guidelines and implementation steps. Additionally, an experimental study based on a testbed demonstrates a use case of IC-HDT-ECoTI in physical therapy. The results show that the proposed framework significantly enhances system effectiveness. The article concludes with a brief discussion of open issues and future directions.
